Hampta pass is situated in the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. Nested at an altitude of 4325 meters, Hampta pass connects Kullu valley to Spiti valley and it has been a traditional route for a very long time for people of the two valleys. Hampta pass, although an easy trail yet it can be very unforgiving in the early summer and monsoon season. Hampta pass is a good experience for both beginners and experienced trekkers. Depending upon the season the trek offers an experience of crossing multiple streams which adds to exhilaration on certain days given the stream's water level. Hampta pass opens up in the vast cold desert of Spiti after a narrow climb through Hampta valley, which is an extraordinary landscape change to witness.

Manali to Jobra (2990 m) to Chika (3085 m)

We would expect you to arrive in Manali by afternoon this day. This day is reserved for resting, preparing and acclimatizing before heading into the wilderness. Accommodation in a hotel.

Manali to Jobra (2990 m) to Chika (3085 m)

Post breakfast our transport team will assist us to the Allain Guhugal Hydel Project site. The trail starts from here, initially going through a forest of Pine, Maple, Deodar, and Oak trees. The sight is very refreshing and the trail is very easy and well-marked for approx. 1 km before it opens into a lush green meadow strewed with small rocks with Rani Nallah flowing in the middle of two massive cliffs on either side. Chikka camp is a roughly flat ground alongside the Rani Nallah. Accommodation in camps.

Chika to Balu-Ka-Gera (3658 m)

Today’s trek is pretty amazing in its own ways and thrilling as one must cross a couple of water streams on the way. The trail stays on the true right of the river and the ground is mostly covered with small colorful flowers. The valley receives a huge amount of annual rainfall and that makes it flourishing with flowers around the monsoon season. The green trail turns brown & rock strewed as we near Balu Ka Gera. Balu ka gera is the point from where the steep climb to Hampta pass begins. It is a level ground made up of the sand and dust brought down by the river. The camp is windy which makes the temperature feel even lower than actual.

Balu-Ka-Gera to Sheagoru (3935 m) via Hampta Pass (4318 m)

We will have to start very early to gain advantage of daylight. This pass is tricky ones & weather can be very unpredictable. The trek begins by encircling the pool of water to enter the partially dried up glacial river bed. The terrain is steep all the way up to Hampta pass whihc would demand a steady pace and walking rythm. The pass could be difficult to identify and in bad weather it gets even more tough to stick to the route. As you cross the pass you enter the Lahaul region and a sudden change in the scenery is very exhillarating. The trail is completely downhill from the pass,and a steep descent gives approach too a poorly marked route down the mountain. After a while the camp can be spotted in the distance in the direction of river flow. The last 1 km to the camp is mostly flat. Shea Goru in local language means “Cold Street”.

Sheagoru to Chatru (3346 m), Drive to Chandratal back to Chatru.

We would start after breakfast early in the morning. The day begins with the crossing of a river which is flowing along the camp, followed by a gradual descent until the vast valley of river Chandra in an exposed landscape becomes visible. Not too far remains Chatru from this point. From Chatru, our transport team will drive us to Chandratal, a stunning lake amidst high rising mountains of Lahaul and Spiti. The road to Chandratal is closed at times due to landslides or snow. the drive to Chandratal is subjected to weather and road conditions.
