Situated in the Garhwal region AKA mountaineer's paradise of Uttrakhand, Mt. Thelu stands tall at an altitude of 6005m. The mountain ranges of Garhwal are fascinated by many mountain climbers from all across the globe & Mt. Thelu’s peak is the one peak that offers an opportunity for a semi-technical climb to the summit. The climb to the summit demands a mix of different high-altitude climbing procedures & techniques as it requires climbing steep sections of snow & ice, walking along narrow gullies & crossing over glaciers.

The landscape of the Gangotri region is astonishing as one could see the high rises like Mt. Shivling, Mt. Meru, Bhagirathi group of peaks, Mt. Thalay Sagar, Mt. Kedar Dome, Mt. Rudragaira, Mt Bhrigu Panth and many more standing in a very close radius across the landscape. Mt. Thelu Expedition is a great challenge for even experienced climbers and it requires a great amount of physical and mental fitness along with prior high-altitude climbing experience.

Haridwar to Uttarkashi

Our team will meet you at Haridwar, followed by the drive to Uttarkashi. Uttarkashi is a small town in Uttarakhand and it is home to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Accommodation in Hotel

Gangotri to Chirbaasa to Bhoj-wasa

Starting from Gangotri we will follow a trail which is partially perched on a gradual terrain towards Chirbasa, the entire path until Chirbasa is on the Left bank of Bhagirathi river. The path after crossing Chirbasa is mostly traversed on a slope which has very low vegetation and is made of loose soil and rocks. In the evening one can enjoy the mesmerizing view of sunset on Bhagirathi group of peaks, Accommodation in Camp.

Bhoj-wasa to Gaumukh to Raktavan

Heading further into the valley we will reach the snout of Bhagirathi glacier which is a sacred site for Hindus and it is known as Gaumukh. It is the starting point of the Bhagirathi River which is one of the major feeders of Ganges River. Climb up the glacier to follow the route to our base camp of Mt. Thelu. Accommodation in Camp. The day allows a person to have a greater perspective of the scale of the Gangotri Glacier and the feeding glaciers coming from high rising mountains of the region.

Summit attempt

Next 7 days we will prepare and push ourselves for the summit attempt of this mighty peak. In these 7 days we will set up higher camps as per the conditions on the mountain, and ferry loads to set up intermediate camps, preparing the route, summit attempt and reserve days. The view from the top of the mountain is simply mesmerizing as it is surrounded by a massive high altitude landscape at over 270 degrees. Many 6000ers and even 7000ers can be seen in the distance and the scale of glacial mass in the region is unfathomable. Accommodation in Camp.
